Privacy & how your data is used
A plain-language summary, written for a public infrastructure-reporting prototype.
What SthaniyaConnect collects
- The issue type you select (power, water, streetlight, other)
- A locality/area name you type in
- An optional note you write
- A location - either your device's GPS coordinates (only if you tap "Use my location") or a point you click on the map
- The time you submitted the report
What SthaniyaConnect does not collect
- No name, phone number, or email - there is no account or sign-up
- No continuous location tracking - your location is only used once, at the moment you submit a report
- No advertising trackers or third-party analytics
Who can see this data
By design, this app is public. Every report you submit including its location, type, and any note you write becomes visible to anyone who opens the live map, including municipal officers using the officer view. Please don't include personal information in the note field.
How reports are used
Reports are grouped by location to calculate a public "reliability score" for each area, so that recurring problems are visible and harder to ignore. Municipal staff can mark a report as acknowledged or resolved, which is also shown publicly.
Flagging and moderation
Anyone can flag a report as inaccurate. Reports that receive multiple flags are automatically hidden from the public score until reviewed, to reduce the impact of spam or mistaken entries.
Data storage
Report data is stored in a Supabase database associated with this project. It is not sold or shared with advertisers.
Questions
SthaniyaConnect is an independent, citizen-reporting tool. It is not an official government or municipal service, and reports here don't automatically become a formal complaint with your utility provider think of it as a public record that makes patterns visible. If you have questions about a specific outage, please also use your local ward office's official contact channels.
